120 Hour In-Class TEFL/TESOL Course
The Knowledge Workshop offers an internationally recognised 120-hour course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, comprising 70 hours of theory and 50 hours of practical training.
The course is split between theory and practical training and can be completed intensively, in a minimum of 3 weeks.
The Theory Component
The theory part of the course is workshopped and process-driven, equipping participants with the necessary skills to step into any English Foreign Language (EFL) or English Second Language (ESL) classroom with confidence. The course centres on the Communicative Approach to language teaching which places the learner at the centre of the experience and sees the teacher in the role of facilitator. The skills acquired are readily transferable, and find application across all subject areas, not just English language teaching.
Modules covered include:
- Methodologies and application
- Mother-tongue vs. foreign language acquisition and learning
- Grammar in context
- The use of authentic texts in the classroom
- The four skills (listening, speaking, reading writing)
- Activities for the EFL/ESL classroom
- Classroom Management techniques
- Lesson planning
- Teaching English to Young Learners
- Job opportunities - where and how to find work
The course manual is included in the cost of the course
The Practical Component
Participants go on to gain practical experience in a live classoom, with EFL/ESL students. Practical training comprises observation, assisting, teaching, classroom management and developing resources.
In total, candidates must complete 5 days of practical training, with the choice to attend one of 2 designated weeks, immediately after the theory component. Alternatively a schedule can be agreed with us to complete your practical training at a time when it is convenient.
Certificate and References
On completion of the course, participants receive a certificate and letter of recommendation. If partaking in any volunteer programmes, candidates receive an additional reference letter from the school or organisation where they've worked. All good news for the CV!
