The Knowledge Workshop is an innovative, independently owned skills centre providing quality English language tuition to all non-native speakers of the English language - local and foreign, specialised iBT TOEFL preparation, teacher-training (TEFL), and communication skills development aimed at empowering previously disadvantaged communities in South Africa. The Knowledge Workshop is owned and directed by Marian James, an English language facilitator and teacher-trainer.
"My vision with The Knowledge Workshop is to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge through active discovery. The Knowledge Workshop aims to make English more accessible to speakers of other languages by providing affordable tuition of an exceptional standard. At the centre of the knowledge acquisition process is the learner who will encounter the language in a highly communicative and transparent environment, with qualified, professional and knowledgeable facilitators. Teacher training and development will be at the heart of the organisation to encourage work opportunities locally and abroad and to build and maintain the teaching standards and integrity of The Knowledge Workshop". The Knowledge Workshop is based at Arundel Lodge, in Rosebank, Cape Town, South Africa - a cleverly converted old Victorian house providing accommodation to foreign students and other visitors to the region. Arundel Lodge provides the ideal setting for The Knowledge Workshop, as it is conveniently located 3 minutes from the station, within walking distance of UCT and close to the city centre. Those with their own transport will also experience easy access to all freeways, the airport, major tourist sites and beaches. Facilities & Resources
The Knowledge Workshop is equipped with a computer for student use and wireless broadband internet access, which allows students to bring along their own notebook computers to class. The aim is encourage the use of technology and the internet in the classroom setting as a valuable, ready-reference resource for both teachers and students. For foreign students, the New Headway English Course series is used as a framework for lessons. Facilitators are encouraged to "step out" of the textbook and supplement lesson content with material that is of interest and relevance to the student. All lessons are tailored in both form and content to the needs of the individual learner. For foreign students intending to study at UCT, or other English-medium university, the new 4th edition iBT TOEFL software and course book is used. Why Cape Town?
